Structural steel is used in construction and construction projects. The most basic definition defines Structural steel as steel shaped for construction, but that alone doesn’t give a very clear picture of what Structural steel really is. Composition
Structural steel is carbon steel, meaning it has a maximum carbon content of 2.1% by weight. Carbon is the most essential element in carbon steel after iron. Increasing the proportion of carbon in the steel composition results in a material with higher strength and lower ductility. How the steel is used determines the required carbon content or level.

Low-carbon steel, also known as mild steel, is the most common form of carbon steel and is most commonly used in construction. As such, mild steel is most commonly considered low-carbon steel. Low-carbon steels typically contain 0.04 to 0.30 percent carbon, making them stronger and more ductile than other high-carbon steels. Medium and high carbon steels (steels containing 0.31% to 1.50% carbon) are also considered structural steels but are typically used for engineering purposes. shape

An overview of structural steel would be incomplete without describing the different forms of structural steel. Going back to basic definitions, structural steel is simply steel designed for a variety of structural uses.

A structural steel section is a section with a specific cross-section. Below are some common forms of structural steel.

I- Beam: I-section with flanges on both sides
Z-shape: Half flanges that extend in opposite directions, similar to a “Z”.
Angle: L-shaped cross-section
Tee: T-shaped cross-section
Bar: a rectangular strip of steel
Rod: Round or square long billet
