PowerGrid Substation Extension
IES partnered with KEC International to deliver an advanced earthing and grounding matrix for PowerGrid's 400 kV substation extension in Lucknow. This project is a vital component of the Northern Region Transmission System (NRTS) strengthening initiative.
The Challenge
The Lucknow site exhibited high soil resistivity, which posed a significant risk to grid stability. The engineering brief demanded a grounding system that could achieve a resistance of less than 0.5 ohm while maintaining a 50-year service life under constant high-voltage exposure.
Our Solution
Our solution involved the precision supply of molecularly-bonded copper steel earth rods with a guaranteed 254-micron coating thickness. IES coordinated with CAD-based grid models to supply optimized GI earth strips and earth mats that ensure maximum fault current dissipation. This hybrid metallurgy approach provided the institutional-grade safety required for EHV substations.
