GI Earth Strip & Flat
Hot-dip galvanized earthing flats for grounding networks.
GI Earth Strip & Flat — Overview
India Electricals Syndicate manufactures galvanized iron earth flats and strips at Howrah for substation grounding mats, equipment bonding and lightning-protection down-conductors. The buried earth grid is the backbone of every substation safety system; GI flat is the most widely specified conductor for it in India because of its mechanical strength, weldability and cost over large grid areas.
Flats are produced from IS:2062 steel and hot-dip galvanized to IS:4759, in standard cross-sections to the grounding design, with drilled, bent and welded configurations made to the grid layout. The galvanized coating resists soil corrosion over the design life while keeping joint resistance low at welded and bolted connections.
Material is fully traceable with mill and galvanizing certificates supplied for tender and inspection. Share your earthing grid drawing and conductor schedule with a quote request and the Howrah engineering desk will return a cut-and-bent offer.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is GI earth strip used for?+
Substation grounding mats, equipment bonding and lightning-protection down-conductors — the primary buried earth-grid conductor in Indian substations.
Which standards govern it?+
Steel to IS:2062, hot-dip galvanized to IS:4759, with mill and galvanizing certificates supplied for tenders.
Can strips be supplied cut and bent?+
Yes — flats are drilled, bent and welded to the grounding grid layout before despatch.
Where is it manufactured?+
At India Electricals Syndicate, Howrah, Kolkata — in continuous manufacture since 1972.
What specifiers say about IES earthing materials
“IES has been our specified cable tray and earthing vendor across multiple thermal projects. Documentation, MTC, and dispatch discipline have been consistent over years of supply.”
“Hot-dip galvanizing micron consistency and IS 12352 conformance on every batch — that's what we rely on for corrosive coastal sites. Lead times from Howrah are predictable.”
“For solar mounting structures across our 50 MW deployment, IES held the galvanizing spec across 30,000+ pieces. Quality dispute count: zero. That tells the story.”
