Lightning Protection System
Air terminals, down conductors, and surge protection per IEC 62305.
Lightning Protection System — Overview
India Electricals Syndicate supplies complete external lightning protection systems — air terminals, down-conductors, test links and bonding hardware — engineered to intercept a lightning strike and conduct it safely to the earth termination network. For tall structures, plants and substations a coordinated air-termination-to-earth path is a code requirement, not an option.
The range includes Franklin rods and early-streamer-emission (ESE) air terminals, copper and aluminium down-conductors, disconnecting test links for periodic earth testing, and the clamps and bonds that maintain a low-impedance path with no sharp bends. Components are selected to the structure’s rolling-sphere protection zone and integrated with the IES earthing system.
Systems are designed per IEC 62305 and IS/IEC 62305, with documentation supplied for tender and statutory inspection. Share your structure dimensions and protection level with a quote request and the Howrah engineering desk will return a designed system offer.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does an external lightning protection system include?+
Air terminals (Franklin or ESE), copper/aluminium down-conductors, disconnecting test links, and bonding hardware tied to the earth termination network.
Which standard is the design to?+
IEC 62305 and IS/IEC 62305, with the air termination set out to the structure’s rolling-sphere protection zone.
Is it integrated with earthing?+
Yes — down-conductors terminate into the IES earthing system for a continuous low-impedance strike path.
Where is it supplied from?+
India Electricals Syndicate, Howrah, Kolkata — serving Indian infrastructure projects since 1972.
What specifiers say about IES lightning protection
“IES has been our specified cable tray and earthing vendor across multiple thermal projects. Documentation, MTC, and dispatch discipline have been consistent over years of supply.”
“Hot-dip galvanizing micron consistency and IS 12352 conformance on every batch — that's what we rely on for corrosive coastal sites. Lead times from Howrah are predictable.”
“For solar mounting structures across our 50 MW deployment, IES held the galvanizing spec across 30,000+ pieces. Quality dispute count: zero. That tells the story.”
